Thirsty Thursday-Simple Strawberry Cocktail

We've made it through another busy week.  For the readers that are teachers in the state of Texas, congrats!!  You made it through another year of STAAR testing.  You deserve a break.  (If you want to know my opinion about the STAAR testing, check it out here.)  Today's drink is so super easy and can use up some of that vanilla vodka from the Easter cocktail.  That is if you still have any.  I would post the link but the recipe seems to have disappeared from the site.  So here it goes:

Ingredients include:
3oz.  Moscato
1 oz. Vanilla Vodka
1 oz. Strawberry soda
Optional-Strawberries for garnish

Combine moscato and vanilla vodka with ice in a shaker.  Shake and then pour into your favorite cocktail glass (or in my case, a mason jar) and top with strawberry soda.  Feel free to garnish with a strawberry.

Hope you get a chance today to relax and sip slowly on this sweet little cocktail!
Hugs y'all,
Melissa

Thirsty Thursday- Simple Coke and Vodka

Ever have that week when every morning, you wake up convinced it's Friday?  That's been me for the past 2 days!  To put it bluntly, it sucks!  At least it's Thursday.  I can see the weekend...which is a whole lotta cleaning!  But for tonight, I am going to enjoy Thirsty Thursday.

I am keeping it simple today-vodka and Coke (really a Coke, not a Dr. Pepper).  This is my husband's "go to" drink.  He puts more Vodka in his than I like.  He's 6 ft 4 and holds his alcohol better.  Take your favorite cup and pour an entire can of Coke.  Mason jars work great.  I bought a great cup at Kirkland's yesterday that held an entire can.

Then add your vodka.  I bought vanilla vodka last week so we've been using that.  You could use cherry flavored vodka instead.  I add about 3 tablespoons of vodka since I don't like for my drinks to taste like alcohol.  Stir or shake to mix the coke and vodka together.  Then sit back and enjoy!!

Keep truckin' friends...Friday is almost here!!!

Hugs y'all!

Thirsty Thursday- Vodka and Jellybeans

I have certain candies I hoard around particular holidays.  Halloween is candy corn and those marshmellow creme pumpkins.  Christmas is chocolate covered cherries ( don't you DARE eat the chocolate and leave the cherry!).  Easter is jelly beans.  One year, I bought a bag of all black jelly beans...talk about heaven!  My husband says that's just gross but I don't even care.  Any fellow black jelly bean lovers out there?

Jelly beans are yummy.  They are even better in vodka.  For best results, use 1 color of jelly beans.  This recipe is easy and flexible.  You can use regular vodka, vanilla, marshmellow flavored or cake flavored vodka.  Soak 1/4 cup of jelly beans in a 1/2 of vodka for 2 days.  Strain the vodka after 48 hours into a mason jar (or a martini glass).  Stir in 2oz of chilled ginger ale.  If you are using a mason jar, just put the lid on and give it a few good shakes to mix the vodka and ginger ale.

You have plenty of time to soak your jelly beans!  Start soaking by Friday and you will have the perfect cocktail by the time the eggs are hunted on Sunday!!

Happy Easter!!!

Hugs y'all!

Thirsty Thursday-Drunken Pumpkin Cocktail

I am so excited to bring you today's drink!! I have been working on it all afternoon!  I thought I would use candy corn but then I saw the candy pumpkins...the rest is history!!!  I call it the "Drunken Pumpkin."  It is perfect for sipping while sitting out on your porch (maybe while you hand out candy tomorrow night?)

RECIPE:
1.  Soak a handful of candy pumpkins in 1/4 cup of caramel flavored vodka.  I put mine in mason jar.  It will turn the vodka orange.  It should soak for at least 1 hour in the fridge.

2..  Heat 1 1/2 cup of apple cider in a saucepan.  Add 1 tablespoon of brown sugar and stir until it is dissolved.  Remove from heat and add a pinch of cinnamon.  Stir again.

3.  Using a strainer, separate the candy and vodka.  Pour your vodka into a cup.

4.  Add your apple cider to the vodka and stir again.

This is not a strong drink.  I personally do not care for drinks that taste like alcohol.  As you can see, it makes enough  for a full mason jar.  It is finally getting chilly here (in my part of Texas)...finally!  So I think I will enjoy a warm cup and a Halloween movie wth the kids!

Hugs y'all!

Thirsty Thursday- Meet the Teacher Night!!

So here in Texas (if you are an out of state reader), we have "Meet the Teacher" night.  It's better known as "The Last Time You Will See The Teacher Relaxed" night.  You know, the night when the teacher is all relaxed and bubbly, ready to start the year and tell you the parent all the awesome things she is looking forward to doing with class.  Especially the first year teachers!  Then you see them at the Christmas party and they have aged 10 years since August.  You've got to give them credit.  They deal with a lot.  I worked in the schools as a speech patholgoist.  The politics of education can beat the most awesome teacher down!!  My kids have been blessed to have great teachers that stretched their minds and broaden their outlook on the world.   Red is an awesome student who doesn't question much, takes in the information presented and applies it.  Chief, on the other hand, is quite the opposite!  He's well behaved (he better be!) but questions everything.  He craves the need to google everything!!!  It's good but...he also feels that in order to breathe, he has to talk,  So he talks...ALOT!

This is the place when his teacher inserts a Thirsty Thursday blog into her life.  Since the kids are going back to school, I thought an apple drink would be perfect!  It's tradition to bring an apple to the teacher but not with a bottle of vodka!  That's frowned upon.  I searched high and low for excellent apple drink recipes.  I like the ones that don't have a lot of ingredients.  I will say I have not tried this one yet.  I plan on getting everything to make it this weekend.  It seems pretty easy.  It's called Red Apple.  All you do is fill a glass with ice.  Add 1.5 oz of green apple flavored vodka and 3 oz of cranberry juice.  Stir well and enjoy!!  I am not a cranberry drinker but still think it will be yum!

Enjoy your thirsty Thursday!

Thirsty Thursday-School's out for summer...almost

It is that time of year...the last week of school that drags for school teachers, students and parents alike.  Everyone is excited for different reasons.  Teachers are excited because they get rid of that one kid that just grates on their last nerve (yea, I know the spill..."I love all my students equally..."  I worked in schools for 7 years; I know the truth!).  Kids are excited about the freedom and sleeping late (if they are teens).  Parents are excited because the summer usually brings a more lax schedule.  Most of the school districts around us start their summer break tomorrow.  Not mine...Pistol has one more meaningless day.

So in celebration of summer break starting, I found a nice little peach flavored drink that reminded me of summer.  If you don't like peach, then this blog post may not be for you.

Here's a quick grocery list:
1.5 fl oz of peach flavored vodka
1.5 fl oz each of pineapple juice and cranberry juice cocktail
0.25 fl oz of fresh lime juice
2 fl oz of ginger ale

Combine the first 4 ingredients in an ice filled shaker.  Shake well and strain into an ice filled collins glass (one of those tall skinny glasses).  Top it of with the ginger ale and drink up.

Enjoy the night with a drink in one hand and a bowl of ice cream in another.

Hugs ya'll,

Thirsty Thursday-Lemonade Vodka Slushie

With summer quickly approaching, all southern girls need a good lemonade...especially one with vodka!!  I will admit...I am a weird southern girl...I strongly DISLIKE tea of any sorts!! (cue the "what the..." looks).  But I do love a great cup of lemonade!! If I hadn't just taken a fabulous detox bath, I would whip it up (after the day I had, I deserve it!).  So here's the recipe for you to celebrate Mother's Day:
 Zest from one lemon
12oz of frozen lemonade concentrate
12 oz  of vodka
24 oz of cold water

MIx all ingredients in a large bowl.  Stir well until all ingredients are combined.  Pour the mxture into a shallow freezer safe pan.  Freeze for at least 8 hours (or overnight).  Make sure to stir once halfway through freezing.  To serve, fluff with a fork and spoon the mixture into glasses for serving.  You can add a lemon slice as a garnish.

There you go!  Grab a spoon and  enjoy this drink sitting on your back porch, feeling the sweet summer breeze in your hair and listening to the bullfrogs croak!

Hugs ya'll,
LSG
